Year 7 Course Outline

The year 7 course aims to enhance skills already developed in the primary years in English. The course is carefully structured to include skills in listening, reading and viewing receptive modes and speaking, listening and creating productive modes. In this transitional year, students develop a deeper understanding of the complexity of a text and the various textual structures and features writers employ, to create meaning. In addition, the students are provided with opportunities to create their own responses.Emphasis is given to assist pupils to understand how language features may influence an audience. Students create texts to show how particular language features from other texts can be combined for specific purposes and effects. All tasks are designed to encourage independent and cooperative learning. A special feature of the course also includes a unit on Poetry.

Start with independent reading strategies and use those for Boy Overboard and then useBO isse for context style writing adn peruasive wriring and debating. Only do Box of Me in term 1. Do autobiography in term 2. Just do very brief revise of NAPLAN before test.
This weekend, I heard the government announcement discussed in the radio program linked below. It was pretty shocking. The ad is incorporated into the radio show… http://www.abc.net.au/am/content/2013/s3807292.htm
